Helen Gilbert Barnes, 69, of the 3400 block of Angler St., died Sept. 27, 1995.
She was a retired injector technician for Western Branch Diesel and was a member of Chesapeake Baptist Tabernacle. She was a widow of James Luther Barnes.
Survivors include two daughters, Sadie Chance of Portsmouth, Mary Byrum of Suffolk; one son, James Lee Barnes of Portsmouth; three sisters, Katy Lassiter of Portsmouth, Annie Cox of Greenville, N.C., Amy LaRooh of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Jerry Gilbert of Chesapeake, Robert Gilbert of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, by the Rev. Jerry Spears. Burial is in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m., and other times at 3503 Broadway St., Portsmouth.
