WORKER ELECTROCUTED

A man working with data cable above the ceiling of a department store Wednesday was apparently electrocuted, police and rescue workers said.

Police identified the man as Robert D. Hitt, 24, of Mount Morris, Pa. Hitt worked for a Pennsylvania electrical and data company, police said.

The accident happened about 1:30 p.m. in the Value City Department Store at the intersection of Virginia Beach Boulevard and Witchduck Road.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston said Hitt's supervisor called to Hitt and became concerned when he didn't answer. The worker was found dead on some electrical equipment.

Power was turned off, and the store was closed while rescue workers recovered the body.

The accident is under investigation.
