SAM'S `PARTY' TO BENEFIT BEACH HIGH SCHOOL

There's more to do at Sam's Club Saturday than shop.

The retailing discount store on North Battlefield Boulevard is celebrating its third anniversary with an all-day schedule of live entertainment.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the rebuilding fund for Princess Anne High School, which burned just before the start of the school year. The Wal-Mart Corp. will match the amount of money raised.

``We always do an annual anniversary celebration, and we always donate the money we earn to some type of charity or worthwhile cause,'' said Tina Morningstar, marketing and sales representative with the Chesapeake Sam's Club.

``We have received such a great outpouring of support from Chesapeake businesses and organizations,'' Morningstar said. ``It's amazing. People in Chesapeake just wanted to help.''

Morningstar said the event will be held in Chesapeake, use a public address system on loan from Oscar F. Smith High School and will feature the time and efforts of several Chesapeake businesses and organizations.

Featured will be performances from Chesapeake Pride, the all-volunteer performing group of Chesapeake high school students espousing drug-free lives and personal responsibility. Also included will be appearances by the Chesapeake Police Department's K-9 unit, a fire truck from nearby Chesapeake Fire Station No. 4, an ambulance display from Chesapeake Emergency Services and an appearance by Blakely's Bad Girls, representing Blakely's nightclub.

The event also will feature more than 30 crafters from Chesapeake and neighboring cities. Each artisan will give either a $10 donation to the fund or donate a craft item or art work as prizes to be awarded throughout the day.

Morningstar said the event will be manned by volunteers from Sam's Club and students from Princess Anne High, who will help run games including golf putt, toilet paper toss, basketball toss, bean bag toss, softball toss and cake walks.

Hungry patrons will be able to satiate their appetites at one of several food booths offering items including root beer floats, New York-style bagels, barbecue, hamburgers, boiled peanuts, funnel cakes, cotton candy and hot dogs.

All-day events will include displays by Coleman's Nursery, Cavalier Ford and Gold's Gym along with recreational vehicles from Dodd's Trailer Service, antique car exhibits and boats from Lynnhaven Marine. There also will be a dunk tank, camel and pony rides, and a moonwalk attraction. ILLUSTRATION: AT A GLANCE
