Barred from speaking in the courtroom this summer, John C. Salvi III tried a nonverbal approach Wednesday. He propped a handwritten message in front of a television camera that read: ``Pro-Life, Pro-Welfare State, Pro-Family Values, Pro-Catholic Labor Unions.''
Norfolk County Superior Court officers quickly took the yellow paper sign from Salvi after his lawyer unsuccessfully urged him to take it down.
The accused abortion-clinic killer sat silently through the rest of the brief status hearing.
In the past, Salvi has been restrained when he yelled out statements in court, tried to pass out written statements or talk to reporters.
Salvi, 24, faces two counts of first-degree murder.
