The parents of a 7-year-old boy were charged with felonious assault Thursday after police found the child in the rear of their apartment with welts covering much of his back and torso.
Milton L. Jones, 30, and his wife, Christine H. Jones, 30, were arrested after police were called to investigate a case of alleged child abuse at their apartment in the Churchland area of Portsmouth.
The parents, according to police, attempted to hide their son, telling authorities that they had only two daughters. The victim was located in the rear of the apartment following a search.
The abuse allegedly occurred late Wednesday night, according to police.
The two girls were removed from the home by Child Protective Services.
Police did not say where the boy was taken for treatment.
