Norfolk Academy turned what could have been an early Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools showdown into a showcase of its all-around ability as it routed Greenbrier Christian Academy 40-14 Friday night.
Although they were outgained in total yardage, 299-141, the Bulldogs (2-0 in the TCIS, 4-0 overall) scored all their points before the Gators (1-1, 2-2) got on the scoreboard. Seven players figured in the scoring.
Academy offset the difference in yardage with the help of an interception return for a touchdown by Russell Carter, a 55-yard run with a bad snap on a punt by Hunter Sims that set up a 5-yard TD run by Drew McKnight, a fumble recovery and another interception.
John Moshier scored both Greenbrier touchdowns and rushed for 121 yards on 16 carries.
Greenbrier tackle Jon DeCastilla was carried off the field and taken to the hospital for a neck injury.
