Quarterback Fred Sanders ran a 10-yard keeper for the game-winning touchdown as No. 5 Kempsville prevailed over No. 10 Salem 26-23 in double overtime.
A crushing block by fullback Eric Souza sprung Sanders, who faked left, scampered around the right side and dove just inside the end-zone flag.
Sanders scored on the same play for Kempsville's first overtime touchdown.
``They were pursuing on the fake, so the play was open both times,'' said Sanders, who had only 9 rushing yards in regulation but opened Kempsville's scoring with a first-quarter 64-yard punt return. ``Souza threw a great block to get me in.''
Kempsville remained unbeaten at 4-0, 3-0 in the Beach District. Salem fell to 2-2, 2-1.
The Sun Devils had taken a 23-20 lead on the opening possession of the second extra period on a Kevin Miller 33-yard field goal. Kevin Rucker's 7-yard sack of Salem quarterback Luke Ethridge forced the Sun Devils to settle for three.
Salem's first overtime score came on Ethridge's 1-yard plunge.
The Sun Devils had a chance to win in regulation when Jose Majica recovered a Kempsville fumble at the Chiefs' 45 with 1:30 remaining. But three plays produced no yards and Salem was forced to punt.

CHESAPEAKE - Off to a 4-0 start for the first time in 18 years, the undefeated Bruins pulled away in the fourth quarter before a homecoming crowd in an inter-district game.
The Commodores (1-4) managed to keep the high-powered, fourth-ranked Bruins in check the first period but yielded a pair of touchdowns to Shyrone Stith in the second quarter.
The 5-9, 185-pound Stith now has seven touchdowns for the season. He carried only once in the second half when Western Branch coach Lew Johnston elected to rest him. Stith is favoring a leg bruise.
The Bruins weren't able to put the stubborn Commodores (1-4) away until Malik Cook broke away on a trap play for an 82-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Cook's younger brother, Rashad, scored Western Branch's final touchdown on a 6-yard run.
Maury averted a shutout when a Western Branch pass completion from the twin-brother aerial act of Daryl and Darren Walton was fumbled. Maury's Jay Bell scampered 27 yards for the touchdown.
The Waltons paired on six pass completions. Daryl also threw for a touchdown to Lorenzo Ferguson.
- BILL LEFFLER Granby 20 Oscar Smith 6
NORFOLK - Quarterback Anthony King ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the No. 8 Comets improved to 3-2 with the nondistrict win at Chittum Field.
The Tigers (2-2) opened the scoring on their third possession when Kelvin Bethea scored from 15 yards out, capping a four-play, 53-yard drive.
The lead stood up until just before halftime. Then, D.J. Alexander picked off a Jamar Lewis pass and streaked 35 yards to the Oscar Smith 5 to set up the Comets' first TD. King capped the drive with a 2-yard keeper and Ray Martin converted the extra point attempt to put Granby ahead to stay, 7-6, with 23 seconds left in the half.
King, who gained 137 yards rushing and passed for 81, marched the Comets 67 yards downfield before hitting Joe Bryant with a 35-yard TD pass to open the fourth quarter. King then scored from 23 yards out to ice the game with 1:47 left to play.
- PATTI WALSH Green Run 48 First Colonial 17
VIRGINIA BEACH - Cedric Warren returned after a one-game absence to lead the No. 3 Stallions.
Warren - who sat out last week with a strained knee - came back to rush for 189 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. He scored on runs of 3, 45 and 14 yards as Green Run (3-0 Beach District, 4-0 overall) racked up 387 yards rushing.

Stallions quarterback Edward Cuffee had another stellar evening, rushing for 46 yards on eight carries, while throwing for 146 yards and a touchdown on 8-of-14 passing.
Green Run linebacker Charles Baker scored on a 2-yard fumble recovery.
The Green Run defense shut down the First Colonial running game, holding the Patriots (1-2, 1-3) to minus-22 yards rushing. But quarterback Dorman Miner picked up the slack by passing for 263 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 of 37 passing.
- LEE TOLLIVER Norview 28 Lake Taylor 23
NORFOLK - Dwayne Potts rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Pilots in their Eastern District opener at Harbor Park.
The Titans' Ronyell Whitaker countered with 165 yards on 24 carries, including a 70-yard touchdown run.
With the loss, Lake Taylor (2-3) fell to 0-2 in the district and was virtually eliminated from contention.
``It was a great game,'' Norview coach Will Robinson said after the Pilots improved to 2-2. ``It definitely helps us. We haven't played a complete football game all year. We're happy to win against a team like Lake Taylor.''
The Pilots held a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Potts streaked 27 yards for the opening touchdown, then raced 3 for the second.
The Titans answered in the second quarter as Brian Kelly pulled down a 23-yard pass from Mario Elliott. Five plays later, Norview quarterback James Whitley hurled a 60-yard touchdown pass to Joe Jordan for a 22-8 lead.
Whitaker gave the Titans a 23-22 lead with back-to-back touchdowns and conversion runs. But Norview's Potts struck again with 5:28 remaining to seal the win.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Chris Sherwood ran for a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the end zone to prevent another as the Marlins held on in a game between previously winless Beach District teams.
Sherrod capped a 47-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run to give Bayside (1-2, 1-3) a 17-0 lead with 10:01 remaining.
But Mike Majette, who finished with 173 yards rushing on 23 carries, rallied the Cavaliers (0-4, 0-4), scoring two touchdowns and a conversion in a five-minute span - a 7-yarder with 6:48 left and a 57-yarder with 1:51 remaining.
Princess Anne got the ball back with 1:10 remaining. Majette ran three times for 8 yards, then quarterback Steve Van Nostrand had a desperation pass batted away to end the threat.
Sherrod returned his interception to the Marlin 31, igniting a 15-play, 69-yard drive that end with a 1-yard scoring run by Lamont Miller with 13 seconds left in the first quarter. Quarterback Jimmy Walker, who finished 11 for 13 for 131 yards, completed two passes for 22 yards to set up a 26-yard field goal by Kevin Cherwa with 9:18 left in the half.
