ANTI-DRUG STRATEGY COMMENDED LEANING ON LANDLORDS

Police Chief Dennis Mook's report that he is leaning on landlords who rent to known drug dealers is welcome news.

Citizens should not have to put up with illegal drug activities in any neighborhood in this city, especially from property owned by absentee landlords who care only about the money they make off rental units.

Portsmouth does not need to have some people who live elsewhere making money off of property that is a disgrace to the city. It does not need to spend police time and money on situations created by landlords who simply don't care.

Mook's ``threat of forfeiture'' on those property owners sounds like one way to pressure them to refuse to rent to drug dealers and other troublemakers. by CNB
