Kola Virginia Griggs Reid, 89, the widow of Dr. James R. Reid Jr., died Sept. 26, 1995, in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Reid, a native of Penn Store, Patrick County, Va., moved with her family to South Carolina at an early age. After living in numerous places throughout the world during her husband's naval career, she was a resident of Fort Mill, S.C., for 31 years before moving to Virginia Beach. She was a member of Bayside Presbyterian Church. She attended Coker College and was a member of the DAR. She was an avid golfer and bridge player, winning many trophies and awards.
She dearly loved her family. She is survived by her son, James R. Reid III of Virginia Beach; her grandson, Dr. James R. Reid IV of Lancaster, Pa.; her granddaughter, Virginia Anne Horton; and great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Matthew Horton of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; her sisters, Ethel Hayes of Darlington, S.C., Beth Crowell of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Katie McCreight of Ruby, S.C., Mary Wells Reagan of Winston Salem, N.C.; and her brother, John Griggs of Cheraw, S.C.
Memorial services were held at Union A.R.P. Church, Richburg, S.C., on Saturday, Sept. 30, 1995, at 2 p.m., with Allen Derrick officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be sent to Union A.R.P. Church, Richburg, S.C. 29729 or to Unity Presbyterian Church, 303 Tom Hall Drive, Fort Mill, S.C. 29715. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is in charge of services.
