CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

PORTSMOUTH

The Vagabond Inn in the 300 block of Effingham St. has been robbed three times since July 14.

The most recent robbery occurred on Sept. 4 when a man entered the business with a handgun and ordered the clerk to empty the register. After taking the money, the subject fled toward Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

The suspect is described as black, about 30 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing stone-washed blue jeans and a blue coat.

Investigators believe the same man is responsible for all three robberies.

HAMPTON

On Saturday, Sept. 23, during the daytime hours, three homes in the city were burglarized.

In two of the burglaries, the residents were in their backyard gardens when the crime took place. In each case, the perpetrators stole several thousand dollars worth of silver and jewelry.

In one incident, there was evidence of a bicycle track leading from the home.

Investigators have no suspects.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Friday, Sept. 1, about 1:30 a.m., the Fire Department was called to Princess Anne High School in the 4400 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. for a three-alarm fire.

The fire was extinguished after several hours but caused more than $3 million damage.

Arson investigators have determined that the fire was set.

In addition to the usual $1,000 potential reward, an additional reward of $5,000 is being offered. by CNB
