SHANNON MOORE and Vince Trypuc took top honors in the Virginia Beach Department of Parks and Recreation's annual adult softball awards program.
Moore, an outfielder with Cummings Softball, was awarded the Kathy Tafelski Memorial Award as the female player of the year. She finished the summer season with a .658 battting average.
Trypuc, a first baseman for the HiTides, was given the Frank Mehrtens Memorial Award as the men's player of the year. He finished with a .714 average.
Moore's team dominated the voting - done by coaches in the top divisions for men and women - by placing six players on the 11-member first team. Staylors and V&J Roofing each placed two.
The voting for the men's first team was far more balanced, with Paramount Builders, Winslows/ Main Event and Crazy Charlie's each finishing with three first-teamers. Trypuc's team placed two on the first team. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photo by CHARLIE MEADS
