John Calvin Britt, 70, died Oct. 2, 1995, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Britt, a retired sheetmetal mechanic from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 99, was a native of Robeson County, N.C. He attended Biltmore Baptist Church, and was a member of Doric Masonic Lodge (NU)44. He was a Banjo player for Laural Mountain Band, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Watts Britt; one daughter, Cathy Britt Umstead of Portsmouth; three sons, Ernest C. Britt of Chesapeake, Carl T. Britt of Virginia Beach, and Anthony Wayne Britt of Portsmouth; four brothers, Robert Britt of Lumberton, N.C., Dock Britt of St. Paul's, N.C., Murdick Britt and Eli Britt, both of Bladenboro, N.C.; three grandchildren, Robert Williford III, Jessie Leigh Umstead and Jackson North Britt.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Biltmore Baptist Church Building Fund.
