BERTA K. SIPE

Berta Kennedy ``Bertie'' Sipe, died Oct. 3, 1995, in a local hospital.

She was a native of Waynesboro, Va., and was the widow of Melvin D. Sipe, who preceded her in death in 1963. She was a daughter of the late E.T. and Berta G. Kennedy. Mrs. Sipe was a long time member of the Main Street Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Waynesboro.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean and her husband, Jim Robertson, with whom she lived in Virginia Beach; one grandson, Barry and his wife, Karen; two great-grandsons, Brian and Jason Robertson, all of Virginia Beach; one sister, Dorothy W. Grinus of Martinsville, Va.; one brother-in-law, John W. Steed of San Diego, Calif.; a host of nieces and nephews, one whom she raised, Brad Ewing of San Diego; and innumerable friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 1995, in the Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel, by Chaplains Rothermel, Leavitt and Hood. The family has asked that flowers be omitted and that donations in her memory be made to the Davis Corner Rescue Squad, 4672 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455 or to the Chesapeake Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 5674, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455. Burial will be at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Waynesboro, Va. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, in charge.
