GRATIA F. MITCHELL

Gratia Francis Mitchell, 75, of the 6000 block of Wesleyan Drive, died Oct. 1, 1995, in a local hospital in Norfolk.

She was a coordinator of disability services for the STOP organization where she had worked for 26 years. She had been retired from there for 3 years. She was a native of Norfolk and was the widow of Simon T. Mitchell. She was a member of Grace Episcopal, Norfolk, where she was a member of St. Monica's Guild, Episcopal Church Women, a former church choir member, and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.; Coriander and Kiski Clubs, Chesapeake; Virginia Beach Chapter of Links Inc.; Tidewater Chapter Coalition of 100 Black Women; Kappa Silhouettes; and the Howard University Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nevada C. and G. Hamilton Francis; and a sister, Alois Chavis.

She is survived by one daughter, Judith Mitchell Taylor of Burtonsville, Md.; son-in-law, Steven Edward Taylor of Burtonsville, Md.; grandchildren, Steven E. Taylor Jr., Simone C. Taylor; niece Cathy Chavis; and a host of cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday by Father Harold J. Cobbs in Grace Episcopal Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the home at noon Thursday for the procession to the church. There will be a wake service from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Hale Funeral Chapel.
