The International Alliance of First Night Celebrations has selected Norfolk as one of more than 150 cities to host a First Night Celebration. This community celebration of the New Year will feature the arts. The city of Norfolk and Norfolk Festevents are seeking proposals from visual and performing arts organizations. Also needed is a local artist to create Norfolk's First Night logo, which will appear on brochures, schedules, posters and T-shirts.
Activities and entertainment will begin mid-afternoon on Dec. 31 at indoor and outdoor locations from downtown Norfolk to Ghent. A ``People's Procession'' will move through the city as evening falls, and the festivities will conclude at midnight with a fireworks finale at Town Point Park.
