DOUBLETALK ON O.J. SIMPSON

I am very disturbed by what I see as the hypocritical positions of the newspaper. Your recent editorial concerning the coverage of the Simpson trial made sense to me; I agree that there has been far too much coverage, time and space given to it by the media. What bothers me is that on the same day, your newspaper gave the trial front-page coverage and, in addition, two full pages on the interior of the paper. That, to my mind, is hypocritical.

Why do you do it? In this market, do you really think you are going to sell more papers? And please, don't give me the cliche that this is free speech and the public has a right to know. You can provide the information without providing so much space and such high profile. Practice what you preach. When will your paper start giving its readers more substance so that some of us do not have to supplement our reading by obtaining out-of-town papers? As one of your lifetime subscribers, I think we deserve better.
