BOUND FOR NATIONAL MEDIOCRITY

Is it possible that after nine internationally embarrassing months of the Simpson trial, we could quickly end the post-trial tabloid analysis and return to providing quality coverage in the valuable news space that has been devoted to that ridiculous legal marathon?

Probably not.

Is it then possible that the American people will have the good taste to boycott the coming multimillion-dollar onslaught of bad taste that will be the marketing of products carrying the name of O.J. Simpson, a misogynous man with a proven penchant for domestic violence?

Most certainly not.

P.T. Barnum must surely be smiling at the current values of our country, at least as these are filtered through today's media: a three-ring circus of money, power and celebrity worship, things America now possesses in overabundance in our short slide to national mediocrity.
