HIGH WINDS MEAN SLOW FISHING, SMALL CATCHES

Southerly winds resulted in slow pier fishing Thursday along the Dare coast.

Anglers on Kitty Hawk Pier caught a few spot and croaker. A couple of croaker also were landed on Avalon Pier.

Some spot were taken by fishermen on Nags Head Pier. Jennette's Pier reported slow fishing with only a handful of spot landed.

A few sand perch, spot and small sea mullet were caught from Outer Banks Pier.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier and Avon Pier reported mediocre fishing with only a few small bottom fish decked. Several puppy drum, bluefish and small croaker were landed on Frisco Pier.

Scattered bluefish, a few small sea mullet, several pompano and an occasional puppy drum were beached in the surf from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Small bottom fish and a few bluefish were taken around Oregon Inlet. Small bluefish and a few keeper puppy drum were landed along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Some nice-sized puppy drum were taken by anglers fishing on a sand bar off Cape Point Thursday. A few bluefish also were taken in the area.

Puppy drum fishing was good in the surf around the ramp 55 area Thursday morning. A few pompano and small blues were landed by surf fishermen from Frisco to False Point.

Inshore trolling around Oregon Inlet was slow Thursday. Headboat action also was slow in the area. Only a few sea bass and pig fish were landed because of to strong currents.

No boats went offshore Thursday from Oregon or Hatteras inlets.

A forecast wind shift to the northeast during the weekend should produce improved fishing along the Outer Banks.

Water temperature at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 74.5 degrees Thursday. by CNB
