Demetria Barrera, above, underwent a successful three-hour operation

Wednesday to correct a cleft lip and palate. At left, the

11-year-old enjoys a laugh with Dr. William Magee, the founder of

Operation Smile, Thursday afternoon. As a result of the surgery, the

girl will be able to speak clearly for the first time. She was

scheduled to leave today for her native Panama.
