I have tried to avoid exposure to the Simpson trial since its beginning. I have admittedly had a difficult time doing so. Los Angeles is a long way from me, and there are enough murders locally to keep even the most ardent newshound sated. I was looking forward to the end of this thing, thinking that my paper would once again have a Page 2 devoted to something other than the lottery and O.J.
Imagine my surprise when picking up Wednesday's issue. A 3-inch headline? Eleven pages of Simpson-trial news? Have all of you in the news media gone insane?
I hope that this was the last hurrah of a media frenzy, but I have a feeling you all will milk this verdict until CNN tells you it's OK to move on to other news - maybe even some news where you are required to investigate for a story instead of copying wire reports.
There are plenty of victims, criminals and trials in Southeastern Virginia, and I hope you will be more tenacious in reporting them now that you have the room. Stop this insanity. No more O.J.
