The Water-Wise Garden Home, which emphasizes frugal consumption of water, has been named Best in Show in the 1995 Homearama Critics' Choice Awards competition.
The Gold award-winning house was constructed by Viola Building Corp./A.E. Viola, Custom Builder, and will be open to visitors during the '95 Homearama showcase of houses in the Lago Mar area of Virginia Beach. The Water-Wise dwelling won an award in nine out of the 13 categories that were judged. The house also was the favorite of the Tidewater Mortgage Bankers and the TBA Past Presidents.
The Silver award for the runner-up house went to The Elizabeth, a 4,250-square foot home by L.R. Hill Custom Builders. Third, taking the Bronze award, was The Princess Anne by C.H. Phillips Construction Co.
In the landscaping category, The Hemingway, by Joe Robinson Custom Construction Co., won the Gold. The landscaping was by Tidewater Landworks Inc. Unique Elegance, by J.F. Schoch Building Corp. and K.W. Askew Nurseries Inc., was awarded the Silver. Taking the Bronze was The Eagle Watch, by Bernard Builders Ltd. with landscaping by Basnight Land and Lawn.
In other categories, the winners were:
Craftsmanship: The Elizabeth, Gold; Monet's ``Le Chemin,'' by Charlie Anderson Builder Inc., Silver, and North Highlands Home, by C.A.B. Builders Inc. and Advance Builders Inc., Bronze.
Interior Merchandising: The Princess Anne, Gold; The Magnolia, by G. Ray Old Inc., Silver, and North Highlands Home, Bronze. The winning design firm was Dallas-/Walker Design Group, runner-up was Suzi Crawford & Co. and Miller Furniture Unlimited, while third place went to Leslie Watson-Leaks of Decorating Den, Charlie's Antiques and Weekends Furniture Market.

Most Creative: The Morgan Anne, by Stafford and Son Builders, Gold; The Princess Anne, Silver, and The Water-Wise Garden Home, Bronze.
