Stanley Griggs, chief of the Lower Currituck Volunteer Fire
Department, rests on a heat-warped I-beam amid the ashes of the
Captain's Watch Restaurant Friday in Point Harbor. The bar and
eatery had stood at the west end of the Wright Memorial Bridge to
the Outer Banks for 50 years. A passing motorist reported the blaze
shortly after 4 a.m. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
