NANSEMOND RIVER BAND IS BEST IN FEST PARADE

The weather was just right for the Peanut Fest kickoff parade last weekend, enticing, according to police, about 5,000 viewers.

Three judges watched the proceedings to decide on the best floats and bands.

Here are the results:

In band competition, first place went to Nansemond River High School, second to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and third place to Smithfield High. Lakeland High School was selected as ``most spirited.''

The Planters-Lifesavers float was chosen as the best. The Bethlehem Girl Scouts entry was selected as ``most creative.''

The Autumn Care float received honorable mention. by CNB
