ROAD RALLY WILL BENEFIT CHILDREN'S GROUP HOMES

A road rally will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 5 to benefit Children's Resources-Hampton Roads, a foundation which raises money to assist local group homes.

Participants will traverse the winding back roads of Suffolk on a gimmick rally in which questions and sometimes directions are stated as riddles.

Winners will be determined by the number of questions they answer correctly. Rally participants will leave from George and Steve's Steak House located on Route 17 in Suffolk.

Registration prior to Oct. 28 will cost $25 per vehicle and driver and $7 for each additional passenger. Registration on the day of the race will cost $30 per vehicle and driver and $9 for each additional passenger. Registration will take place from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 5.

Registration packets can be obtained by calling Denise Andros at 422-5044. Early registration should be made by Oct. 28.

Gum Tree Farm at 1900 Pocaty Road in Chesapeake will have its annual open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 15.

There will be sheep, donkeys and other barnyard animals, a sheep shearing, a herding demonstration, a pumpkin patch and hay rides. Also present will be basket weavers, candle makers, stained glass makers, homemade jams and jellies, a wood carver and more.

The Tidewater Classic Sheep Dog Trials begin at 8 a.m. The trials are sponsored by Southern States.

Admission to the dog trials are $2 for adults, children permitted free. Proceeds will go toward Equi-Kids, a therapeutic riding program.
