RICHARD E. BLANCHARD SR.

Dr. Richard Eugene Blanchard Sr., 62, of the 100 block of 87th Street, died Oct. 7, 1995, in his home.

Dr. Blanchard was born in Waterbury, Conn. Dr. Blanchard's family moved to Portsmouth, Va., in 1942. He attended St. Paul's Catholic School and St. Charles Seminary. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1952. Dr. Blanchard attended William and Mary College from 1953 to 1955 and MCV dental school from 1955 to 1959. He entered the Navy in 1959 as a lieutenant, aboard the USS Siewa and USS Mt. McKinley, and completed his military tour in 1962. Dr. Blanchard completed his residency in periodontics in 1964 at the University of Alabama. He returned home to start his private practice in periodontics in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake until 1994. Dr. Blanchard was a member of Tidewater Dental Association, Virginia Dental Assocation and American Dental Assocation. Dr. Blanchard was a founder and a past president of Virginia Society of Periodontists and Past President of Southern Academy of Periodontology and a member of American Academy of Periodontology. Dr. Blanchard taught at the Medical College of Virginia and Old Dominion University. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Barbara Allison Blanchard of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Dr. Zantha Christine Bendura of Richmond, Va.; three sons, Richard E. Blanchard Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Houston, Texas, Dr. T. Randall Blanchard and his wife, Dr. Margaret Blanchard, of Norfolk, Va., Dr. Scott Carlton Blanchard and his wife, Toni, of Southern Shores, N.C.; a brother, A. Ross Blanchard of Hampton, Va.; five grandchildren, Jacqueline Ann, Victoria Bell, Thomas Zachary, Michael Scott and Walker McVey; and five nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1995, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Fr. John J. Dorgan. A Christian Wake service will be held Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Infant Home, 317 Chapel Street, Norfolk, Va.
