Howard Joseph Satterfield, 85, of the 4300 block of Shoulders Hill Road, died Oct. 7, 1995, in Suffolk.
Mr. Satterfield was a native of Person County, N.C. He was a maintenance man for Portsmouth Gas Co. for 32 years. He retired from Airline Nursery and donated to the beautification of many of the parks in the Tidewater area. He was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia D. Satterfield; four daughters and spouses, Marlene Thompson and Tommy Thompson of Suffolk, Judy Garner and Booty Garner of Chesapeake, Diana Ashley and Barry Harris of Suffolk, Elizabeth Coltrain and James Coltrain of Portsmouth; a son and spouse, Joseph J. Satterfield and Sue Satterfield of Suffolk; a brother, John T. Satterfield of Portsmouth; seven grandsons, George Garner, Colt Garner, Bee Gee Garner, David Ashley Jr., Brian Satterfield, Tommy Satterfield and Joshua Martin; four granddaughters, Amy Hayden, Carrie Vann, Heather Martin and Crissy Satterfield; and great-granddaughter, Tiffany Satterfield. He was predeceased by a son, John Wayne Satterfield and a grandson, Dean Satterfield.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Loving Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. J. Robert Bennett and the Rev. Damon E. Wyatt. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association or to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
