Master firefighter Gerald Chiusano, above, of the Virginia Beach
Fire Department, removes his backpack after returning Sunday from
Florida, where he was part of a disaster-response team from Hampton
Roads. The team spent Friday and Saturday in the Gulf coast with
workers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, after after
Hurricane Opal devastated the area. The task force searched for
victims, shut down utilities and assessed the safety of the
structures in the waterfront neighborhoods.
