CHILDREN meet theater, live and in person, in a monthly performance series beginning Saturday at the Generic Theater.
Kids will have an opportunity to join the cast onstage as part of ``The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,'' the opener of the monthly ChildsPlay series.
``We'll use the kids in the audience in the show,'' said ChildsPlay director Frankie Little Hardin. ``They'll be the students in Icabod Crane's classroom. It should be lots of fun for everyone.''
The classic tale of the headless horseman and the timid schoolmaster will be the first show of a series that will run through May.
``Every month we'll have something different,'' Hardin said. ``One month we might have puppetry or storytelling, the next month we might feature an original production of a classic fairy tale.''
``The Legend of Sleepy Hollow'' will feature George Hasenstab, Cortney Morse and Ethan Marten as Icabod Crane. Marten, by the way, has a role in Whoopi Goldberg's latest movie, which is being filmed in North Carolina.
CenterStage, an ensemble of young performers, will also present a short program of song and dance.
ChildsPlay will take place on the second Saturday of each month. Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $3. For reservations, call the Generic Theater at 441-2160.
