Cathy Melinda Barnard, 44, died Oct. 8, 1995, in a Chesapeake nursing home.
She was a native of Portsmouth and the daughter of William R. Gibson of Danville, Va., and the late Callie Ruth Gibson. She was the former manager of Park Place Shelter in Portsmouth and attended St. Paul Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake. She received a two-year associate degree in Business Management. She was a former board member of Habitat for Humanity, Portsmouth Chapter.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Dawn Gibson of Portsmouth; two sons, Jason Jones of Griffin, Ga., and Brandon Correy Barnard of Chesapeake; four sisters, Patricia Mathias of Suffolk, Carol Owens of Chesapeake, Janice Gibson Webster of Sewell, N.J., and Belinda Gibson of Danville, Va.; one grandson, Christopher Gibson; one niece; six nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends, Debbie and Joe Affonso, Russell and Mary Lind Thorn, all of Chesapeake.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. William F. Mahon and the Rev. Keith Lewis. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at 417 Creekwood Drive, Chesapeake.
