GEORGIA J. WILLIAMS

Georgia Rose Joyner Williams, 68, of the 1200 block of E. Washington St., died Oct. 7, 1995, in DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk, of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mrs. Williams, a retired educator and librarian, worked for Suffolk Public Schools for 36 years. She had been retired for eight years. A native of Nansemond County, Va., she was the widow of Aulcie T. Williams Jr. She was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, where she was chapel choir president, member of Trustee Board, president of the Board of Directors, member of the Kitchen Courtesy Committee, and the Metropolitan Church Federal Credit Union. She was a member of the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter, charter member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Imperial Crescent Club, Dee Cee's Social Club, Board of Directors, Action Inc., Board of Directors, American Red Cross, Suffolk, and National Education Associations. Among her many honors and awards were Delta Great Teacher's (Retired) Award, Delta Sigma Theta certificate of dedicated service, recognition plaque, committed sisterhood award, Virginia Lung Assoc. Appreciation Award, Citizen of the Year, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Survivors include one daughter, Pennye Juanita Williams of Framingham, Mass.; two sisters, Juanita J. Harris of Norfolk and Athalia J. Richards of Suffolk; two sisters-in-law, Alma D. Boone of Suffolk, Edith W. Ray of Norfolk; one brother-in-law, James E. Richards Sr. of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Metropolitan Baptist Church by Dr. Melvin R. Boone. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. A Delta Sigma Theta memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in T.E. Cooke-Twilight Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will begin Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday. Family and friends will assemble at the home for the procession to the church at 2 p.m. Friday.
