Lawson Boyer Kendrick, 93, of the 5200 block of Argall Ave., died Monday, Oct. 9, 1995, in his residence.
He worked for many years for the Postal Telegraph Co., where he started as a messenger boy and worked his way up to be a telegrapher. The company then merged with Western Union where he retired as a supervisor, after serving over 42 years in the industry. He was very proud to be one of the few remaining Morse Coders. He was born in Shelby, N.C. Mr. Kendrick was a member of the Larchmont Baptist Church; the Morse Telegraph Club; the Sixty-Plus Club; and was very active and had received many awards for his involvement in the Senior Olympics.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Ida Etheridge Kendrick; two sons, Edgar B. Kendrick of Richmond, Va. and William P. Kendrick of Glen Allen, Va.; three stepsons, D.W. McKenney Jr. of Chesapeake, M. Robert McKenney of Adelaide, Australia, and Shepard W. McKenney of Drayden, Md.; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Larchmont Baptist Church by the Rev. John C. Dean. Burial will be in the Williamsburg Memorial Park in Williamsburg, Va. following the service. The family will be at the Cox Funeral Home tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Larchmont Baptist Church, 1127 Surry Crescent, Norfolk 23508.
