Ervin E. ``Ridge'' Wimmer, 68, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Wimmer had retired from Newport News Shipyard as a Master Boilermaker in 1986 after 28 years. He was honored several times for ``High Quality'' and ``Superior Job Performance'' during his employment. He was an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Branch (NU)40 and Green Hill Church of the Brethren in Salem.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Wimmer; daughter, Cindy Wimmer; two stepsons, Hal and Tim Phillips, all of Chesapeake; three sisters, Mary Ellen LaPrad of New Castle, Va., Lillian Wells of Virginia Beach and Joyce Ann Long of Hampton; two brothers, Allan and Earl Wimmer, both of Salem; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with the Rev. Forest O. Wells officiating. Burial will be private in the Wimmer Family Cemetery in Salem, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund at 1322 George Washington Highway North, Chesapeake, Va. 23323. The family will receive friends at his residence, 229 Jarvis Road, Chesapeake, today from 7 to 9 p.m.
