SOUTHAMPTON WILL TRY to continue its string of big wins in the Bay Rivers District Friday when it hosts York, one of three teams with unblemished district records.
The Indians (2-0, 5-0), ranked second in the Associated Press Virginia Group AA poll, have already beaten district contenders Lakeland 20-14 and Nansemond River 35-20. York is 2-0, 4-1.
``It seems like we have that schedule every year where we open up with tough district games,'' Southampton coach Littleton Parker said. ``We definitely think this is a big one because Bruton is the only other undefeated team (in the district).''
If Southampton and Bruton (2-0, 4-1) win Friday, it will set up a battle of the last unbeatens next week at Bruton. The Panthers travel to Franklin this week.
