Melba Ritter Tilling, 85, formerly of Whitechapel Road, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
She was the owner and operator of Melba's Beauty Shop, which she maintained in her home for over 51 years. She was born in Radford, Va., and was the daughter of the late Sue Webb and Sidney E. Ritter. Mrs. Tilling was the widow of the late W.T. Tilling.
Survivors inlclude two sons, William Thomas Tilling Jr. and his wife, Janice, of Winchester, Va., and Sidney E. Tilling and his wife, Joanne, of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Cassandra Carroll and her husband, Michael, Tracy Pilgley and her husband, Zackary, William T. Tilling III, Thomas H. Tilling and his wife, Alison, Theresa Tilling Thompson, and her husband, Scott, and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Sidney E. Tillin, 5240 Rolleston Drive, Virginia Beach, tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cox Funeral Home is in charge.
