DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILDREN

Regarding ``Fur flies over parental-role law'' (MetroNews, Oct. 9): Why are parents so upset about signing a paper which requires them to be responsible for their children's behavior? Parents are supposed to be responsible for their children.

Children should be disciplined by their parents from an early age, such as 1 year. Irresponsible parents expect schools to deal with their unruly kids. When the schools try to get these same parents involved, the parents object.

I have met the children of parents who let God do the disciplining and have had them over to the house - once! These kids are out of control. They require constant supervision.

If these parents object to the law, they can shell out the money and send their kids to private school.

I have no problem signing because my children are well-behaved, well-disciplined and well-mannered. Can the parents who object to the law say the same thing?

If parents did their job, Virginia schools wouldn't need this law to make them take responsibility.
