A man accused of shooting his girlfriend during an argument Wednesday evening has been arrested and charged with malicious wounding.
Willie H. Holt Jr. of the 1700 block of Chestnut St. in Portsmouth also was charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Holt was arrested Thursday in the 800 block of Crawford St., said Amber Whittaker, spokeswoman for the Portsmouth Police Department.
Holt's girlfriend is in a local hospital.
Her identity and condition are not being released, Whittaker said.
