PASQUOTANK YACHT CLUB RETAINS CHAMPIONSHIP

PASQUOTANK River Yacht Club sailors still reign over the waters of the Albemarle Sound.

After the last of three summer challenges from the Edenton Yacht Club and the Roanoke Island Yacht Club, the Elizabeth City-based PRYC easily retained its championship with a low score of 91 1/2 points. Edenton's sailors were second at 135, and Roanoke Island trailed with 172.

Championship trophies were awarded Oct. 7 after the final Triad Regatta, raced in rain and fresh winds.

SEASON WINNERS Rookie of the year: Tom Whitaker, RIYC, skipper of Sea Dreams.

Spinnaker class: 1, Pete Hunter, RIYC, Ninewonone; 2, Jim Elliott, EYC, Nereid; 3, Tom Williams, EYC, Chyna Cloud.

Class A: 1, Arch Farmer, PRYC, Feather; 2, Bob Morhard, PRYC, Blythe Spirit; 3, Skip Carney, EYC, Spooners.

Class B: 1, Eddie Paul, PRYC, Second Wind; 2, Ernest Davenport, PRYC, Wind Fever; 3, Don Midgett, PRYC, Slippery When Wet.
