It's hard to understand destruction of beautiful young trees in a public space at the intersection of High Street West and Western Branch Boulevard across from the old Churchland High School site.
The oak trees were planted no more than 10 years ago, part of then City Manager George Hanbury's beautification program. They created a small island of tranquillity in the hubbub of traffic at that point.
The trees were marked for destruction after a car dealer moved nearby and pressed for their removal. Sadly, the city agreed to destroy this beautiful place to give the public a better view of an automobile lot.
Will this help business? It's hard to believe the public will find the corner more attractive without the trees.
And it's incredible that the city would destroy an investment in beauty purchased with tax money 10 years ago. by CNB
