Fiber artist Julia Pfaff will introduce three different fabric collage techniques in a Fiber-Art Workshop presented by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Art Center.
Pfaff has a bachelor's degree in art history from the University of Toronto and a master's degree in fine arts in textiles from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work has been shown in exhibitions in Japan and New York City.
In addition to her work as an artist, Pfaff has been the curator of New Energy in Contemporary Quilting, a quilt exhibition at the Handworkshop, Virginia Center for the Craft Arts in Richmond.
The workshop, designed for students who want to express their ideas in fabrics, will teach participants how to produce a pictorial wall hanging using freezer-paper applique, hand applique and machine construction quilting.
The workshop is $15 for museum members and $20 for non-members. All supplies will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring portable sewing machines and fabrics of their choice to supplement materials provided.
