Richard Rhodes has been named acting unit director of the Chesapeake Cooperative Extension. Rhodes replaces Robert Pilch, who resigned last month after a 14-year tenure with the agency.
For the past eight years Rhodes served as an extension agent for the City of Chesapeake. His duties included testing crop varieties and herbicides to determine the best choices for local farmers and testing and educating farmers on pesticide application and safety. Recently, Rhodes helped local farmers reinstate cotton in Chesapeake.
As acting director, Rhodes will continue to work closely with area farmers as well as oversee the extension's other programs and annual budget and supervise personnel.
Rhodes is a graduate of Great Bridge High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and a master's of agriculture from North Carolina State University. by CNB
