Deacon Italy Small Sr., of the 900 block of Avenue F, died Oct. 11, 1995, in DePaul Hospital.
Mr. Small, a retired skilled painter, worked for the Norfolk Naval Base for many years. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Small. He was a native of Windsor, N.C., and a dedicated member of New Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk. He served faithfully on the Deacon Board for many years, and he held numerous positions in the church, such as building superintendent and any other tasks asked of him. He was a member of Improved Masonic Lodge (NU)192, Cohesion Chapter No. 14, Royal Arch Masons and 32 degree Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Small; two sons, Herbert Small and Italy Small Jr., both of Norfolk; two brothers, John Small and the Rev. Robert Small, both of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; and a host of other relatives, family, and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in New Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. G.G. Campbell Jr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Family and friends will assemble at 964 Avenue F on Wednesday at noon for the funeral procession to the church.
