PRACTICING MEDICINE

The power of health-insurance companies to make medical decision continues to grow. I speak of decisions about what medication a physician can prescribe, what tests a physician can do and how long patients should stay in the hospitals. This trend leaves me filled with dismay and concern.

Disguising this practice with high-sounding phrases such as cost containment, judicious care, efficient management, etc., is fraudulent, immoral and unethical.
