Evelyn M. Newton, 91, of Chesapeake, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 1995, in a Chesapeake nursing home.
Mrs. Newton was born in West Point, Va., and was the daughter of the late Honorable Morgan and Francesca Talley Treat. She was the widow of Admiral Frank H. Newton.
Mrs. Newton was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond and was a former member of the Ginter Park Woman's Club, also in Richmond; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; past president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and served as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include her three daughters, Anne M. Cocke of Virginia Beach, Frances Bowe Blanton and Virginia Medlin Browder, both of Richmond; her son, Frank H. Newton Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sunny Slope Cemetery, West Point, Va., by the Rev. Jere Bunting Jr. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, is handling arrangements.
