While overall action was nothing to make a fuss about, it did provide all the bragging rights Julie Cooner could ever hope for.
The Virginia Beach 10-year-old caught a speckled trout in Little Creek Inlet big enough to earn her a citation from the Virginia Salt Water Fishing Tournament. While fishing with her father, Greg, on his boat Lucky Seas, the youngster boated a 5-pound, 1-ounce trout - a catch many speckled trout anglers fish for a lifetime for.
Elsewhere, flounder and croaker action in the Chesapeake Bay was up and down, as was speckled trout fishing in and around Lynnhaven and Rudee inlets. Spot action continues to be good at Rudee Inlet and area piers, but the fish haven't been as big as in recent weeks.
Offshore action cooled considerably, with the approaching cold front keeping many boats in port Sunday.
