Robert Lawrence Rawls, 97, a Portsmouth resident since 1920, died Oct. 16, 1995, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
He was a native of Emilee, Texas, and was the widower of Nellie Holland Rawls. He was a retired electrician's helper for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a retired dispatcher for the city of Portsmouth. He was a member of Park View Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I and the American Legion.
He is survived by a son, Robert L. Rawls Jr. of Largo, Fla., two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. Robert Forehand. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Park View Baptist Church.
