ERMA C. PIERCE

Erma Carter Pierce, 94, died Monday, Oct. 16, 1995, at Riverside Convalescent Center.

A native of Gates County, N.C., she had been a Hampton resident since 1934. Mrs. Pierce was employed as a seamstress for 25 years with M.J. Goldstein's Ladies Ready To Wear and later worked for Leggett Department Store, both located in downtown Hampton. She was a member of Hampton Christian Church and its Christian Women's Fellowship.

Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie L. Pierce, and her son, Leon Pierce. Her survivors include two daughters, Marie P. Conley of Hampton and Dorothy P. Cannady of Cave City, Ark.; brother, Wilbur Brooks Carter of Sunbury, N.C.; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wendell O. McKee. The family will receive friends Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, Gatesvile, N.C., and burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, in Cross Cemetery, Sunbury, N.C. Memorial contributions may be made to Hampton Christian Church Memorial Fund, 151 E. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, Va. 23669.
