A 47-year-old man who was apparently walking in the road was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday, police said.
The accident happened about 8 p.m. in the 3300 block of Virginia Beach Blvd., police spokesman Mike Carey said.
Carey said a 1993 Isuzu pickup was traveling east in the far left lane of the road when it struck the man, who is believed to be from Virginia Beach.
His name is being withheld until police notify his family.
Carey said alcohol wasn't a factor on the driver's part, but police believe the pedestrian may have been drinking.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Virginia Beach General Hospital, Carey said. The pedestrian died at the same hospital.
Police identified the driver as 22-year-old Jeril V. Tolbert, of the 300 block of Rosemont Road.
Tolbert was wearing a seat belt.
