With School Bus Safety Week - Oct. 15-21 - it seems some drivers need to be reminded what they're supposed to do when they approach a school bus with its lights flashing.
I live on Virginia Beach Boulevard, which is very busy all day. Almost every day my four children's arrival home from school is signaled by their bus driver's blaring horn for vehicles to stop to ensure safety.
Several times these drivers have been met with both the bus driver's horn and my yelling at them to stop. These people look at me as if I'm nuts.
State law says if there is no median (which there isn't on this part of Virginia Beach Boulevard), traffic in both directions must stop. Is it going to take a child getting hit, or worse, killed before people really pay attention? I pray that it won't be one of my children.
Bus drivers have the lives of our children in their hands. Let's make their job a bit easier by obeying the law.
Those who don't obey the law will be met with my yelling at them to stop.
