Associate editor Beth Barber wrote an excellent column that sliced right through the political rhetoric, emotional hype and misinformation surrounding the Nauticus debacle.
Her column was right on target, simplifying and stating in very clear and understandable terms that a few officials are misusing and gambling with taxpayers' money and the economic vitality and future growth of Norfolk. I am sure many in Norfolk's government, and the few behind the scenes who control Norfolk's government, wish these terms were not so clear.
The Virginian-Pilot is to be commended for allowing such a worthy article to be published, and for having on staff such an astute and gifted writer as Ms. Barber.
Could Ms. Barber do us one more public service - consider running for City Council in the upcoming May elections? I am sure if she did seek office, her candidacy would reveal Mayor Paul Fraim as the city's newest political prophet.
Mayor Fraim says citizens have a vote and could vote for him and others, implying that citizens could also vote against him and others. Ms. Barber's successful run for office would indeed be prophetic by unseating one of those councilmen who voted with the mayor in supporting further funding for Nauticus without proper public discussion and input.
