Harry Joe Hyatt, 82, died Oct. 16, 1995, in Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community.
He was born May 9, 1913, in Whittier, N.C., and was a son of the late William Adam and Nettie Lou Howell Hyatt. He was an aircraft maintenance operator at the Norfolk Naval Air Station for 31 years before retiring. While in Norfolk, he was a member of Coleman Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, deacon and Sunday School teacher. While living at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, he was a member of the Massanutten Presbyterian Church, serving as a member of the Session and a Sunday School teacher. While a resident of the Sunnyside community, he transported the mail for the residents to and from the local post office.
On June 2, 1939, he married the former Lela Ennis Watson, who survives. He is also survived by a brother, Jack H. Hyatt of Havana, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at the Massanutten Presbyterian Church near Penn Laird by the Revs. Hoag Smith and Don Allen. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. Memorial contributions may be made to either Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community, 100 Sunnyside Dr., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801, or to the Massanutten Presbyterian Church, Rt. 1, Box 483, Penn Laird, Va. 22846.
